Hello All,
Please let me know what is the purpose of linking the issues. I have linked 2 issues and when I comment in one of the issues I thought it should appear in the other issue as well. But it is not appearing.
Hi @[deleted]
You can use linked issues to connect work across teams and projects in Jira. Linked issues help your team surface, understand, and manage dependencies and related work. Refer this link for documentation.
Adding a comment in an issue that's linked to another won't automatically add a comment to the linked issue since it's not designed to work that way. However, you can set up an Automation rule to get that comment added to the linked issue.
where can I create the automation rule
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
If your Site admin have allowed project administrators to manage project rules, and if you have project administrator access, then Navigate to Project Settings > Automation
From there you can create automation rule. Refer example rule below -
Refer What are Automation Rules for more details around this topic.

Hi @Kishan Sharma thanks for your help. The comment really helped me. I want to know if there is any way where I can flag the related/linked issues? When I try to flag and issue and the same issue is related to other also must be flagged and appear on the board.
Is there a way to do it?

Hi @[deleted] glad to help.
To flag a linked issue using the same automation rule, you can incorporate an action to modify a custom field of the linked issue and assign it a value as per your preference. In the provided example, the component field is being edited and designated as "Linked," enabling efficient issue filtering based on this criterion.
You can then create a filter to locate issues with specific link types (e.g., issueLinkType = causes and project = "Mobile Dev") and create a board using the saved filter.

@Kishan Sharma I will surely try this and let you know how it goes. But, I just had a concern about the comment part. When I set the automation rule I am now able to comment but not more than 2 comments.
Suppose, I am linking 2 issues. When I comment on one issue it will show up in the related issue as well but that limits for 2 issues each. When I do more than that the comment is not visible on the other issue.

Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your Automation rule setup for better understanding?
I would also recommend checking out the Audit log of the automation rule to get a better idea of what's happening behind the scenes.
You can also check if the below checkbox (under Comment on Issue action) is preventing you from adding more comments to the linked issue.

Hi @[deleted]
Issue linking in Jira is being used to create the dependencies between the issues. For example: Before task B gets in progress, task A needs to be done. Linking issues doesn't necessarily mean reflecting the the changes on the other issue. For this, you would have to create automation rules that will trigger the wanted action.

Adding to this...
Linking issues is not used only to create "dependencies". Linking issues indicates there is some relationship between the issues. That might be a type of "dependency", or it could be a clone relationship, of a test-and-bug relationship, or any variety of custom relationship that the Jira Administrators want to define.

@Trudy Claspill @Nikola Perisic Can I automate the rule where in I can link the issues from different board and when one comments on the linked issue it will also reflect on the other issue's comment section?

@Kishan Sharma already provided the answer to that question on 20 September.
