×Hello all!
I created a custom number field to use for estimation in one of our projects. I am able to select it as the Estimation field in the board's settings, but when I hover over it in the backlog, it still shows as "Story points". I double checked that the correct field is being pulled, and tested by updating a few issues with the new custom field. The values are displaying correctly, but the tooltip is not. I have already tried updating the custom field's description in the field configuration and in the custom field's settings as well. Is this just a bug or is there a way around this? We are switching from story points to a custom calc, which makes the popup confusing for users.
Thanks!
JJ
Hi @Josh Jordan ,
I think this is probably a bug since Jira is expecting either Story Points or Original Estimate rather than a custom field and the tooltip may not have been updated when custom fields were allowed for estimating, or the bug may be allowing you to select a custom field since the documentation only mentions Story Points and time estimates (https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/estimate-an-issue/)
I'm not aware of any workaround, and I couldn't see any other reports of this as a bug on a quick check.

Hi @Josh Jordan
Check the field configuration scheme and the field configuration used on the project.
Within the Field configuration, find the field and use the edit option, to adjust the field description, used in the tool tip

Hello Marc,
I already tried this in both the custom field's description and in the Field Configuration.

Hi @Josh Jordan
What if you edit the field within the custom fields, what is set as the description there?
Or did you re-name the ootb Story Points field?
If you did, then its not possible to change the tooltip as this is hardcoded in the UX.

I did not. I created a custom field that uses a Number field type.
