Automation Tests

Lior Pesoa August 31, 2011

Hello,

I would like to know if there is any option to run automated tests within jira?

If not, is there any plugin for it? or a program that can be integreted with Jira?

I need only the side of the automation test (like recording actions, run scripts, etc.) not the whole package of managing tests (I already have Jira for this job)

Thanks!

I'm guessing you don't mean run automated tests on jira itself.

The answer is not really, but it depends what you want to test. For web apps you might use Selenium... if you have selenium/WebDriver tests written in java it's perfectly possible to kick them off from an issue action, although you would need to write the plugin to do that.

An other option is to use HP Quality Center, if you do that there are a couple of bridges available between QC and jira.

Having set all that up you might want to investigate Bonfire for creating issues on failed tests etc.

Just downloaded Selenium, seems to be really nice. will give it a try.

About QC, for my knowledge, QC is for Commercial use only and cost lots of money.

And if I buy QC, why should I use Jira ?

Because QC is licensed per user, so you'd get QC licences only for those users that need it. But if you're not already invested in QC I probably wouldn't bother. Selenium is perfectly adequate if you are testing web apps... imho.
