Automation - Adding a component to new tickets

Hi,

I have a Jira project with multiple boards.
Each board has different components, but they all use standard issue types (Epics, story, task etc)

I want to use automation to ensure a component is added to the ticket each time i create one, but im facing challenges as the automation doesnt read from a board, its only project or JQL.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Matt Shovlar -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You describe using the Component field to select on which board an issue displays, which means those different values are selected in the different board filters.

Have you considered making the field required for the issue creation, ensuring the person creates it so it displays correctly?

 

Otherwise, how could an automation rule determine which Component value to set?  (During issue creation, there is no information available regarding from which board / backlog view it was created.)
