Add a comment to a jira service board ticket without a full access account

I want to use the rest api to add a comment to a service desk ticket.  Is there any way to do this without using the credentials of a service desk agent with service desk permissions?  Right now I'm using my own login, which is subscribing me to all the tickets the automated job writes comments to.

You could create an account that only does this - but it would need to be an agent of some description, yes.
