Required custom field to appear only during a particular transition

Hi,

I use a workflow and wanted few custom fields (required) only during a particular transition to appear.

Is there a script or do I need to use condition, transition or post function ?

Thanks

Validator.

You need a validator on the transition that can check that a field is filled and block that transition if it isn't.

You can also do this with a condition, but they don't tell people why they can't use a transition (they do the same sort of validation, but before someone is using a transition, and they just hide the transition from people, so there's nothing they can click - this can be confusing for people)

Are you working with a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project?

With a Company Managed project you can attach a custom Screen to the transition to display just the fields you want. And, as @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- mentions, you can use a Validator to ensure the fields have been filled in, else the transition will not be able to be completed.

If you are using a Team Managed project  you can add Rules to the transition to check that fields are filled in, however

1. The transition will be allowed even if only one of the multiple validations passes.

2. You cannot add a screen to the transition to show the fields. The fields have to have been edited before the transition is attempted.
