Quick questions about cross teams epics

Hello community,

Let's say I am in a company that has got 4 Tech teams with their own product owner, scrum master, developpers, ... Each team represents a project inside Jira.

We have two boards inside each projects :

  • one regarding features
  • one regarding bugs

Every feature added to our product is represented by an Epic which is described through multiple user stories.

Epics can be splitted across multiple sprints because of the Epic size.

For single team feature (a.k.a Epic) we're doing great at the moment. However, we encounter troubles when dealing with cross team Epics.

This translates to an Epic containing user stories coming from two teams. For example :

EPIC 1 :

  • 10 stories regarding team A inside "Team A" Jira project
  • 8 stories regarding team B inside "Team" B Jira project

All our KPIs are project based meaning that KPIs are related to a team only.

  • Does it make sense to track KPIs from the joint of "Team A" and "Team B" thanks to the EPIC ?
  • How do you grow cross team communication since all of our rituals (daily stand-ups, retrospective meetings, poker plannings, ...) are team based ?
    • The aim behind this is to decrease the frictions created by both team working together towards the same goal (a.k.a the Epic)
  • Any feedback is welcome regarding how to handle cross teams epics

Have a nice day,

Thomas
