Jira Automation to create subtasks for multiple tickets under an active sprint

Yash R July 23, 2022

Platform = Jira cloud.

Hi! fellow jira users,

can anyone please navigate me to a solution for the following:

  • I'm trying to figure out a way where I can create a set of subtasks per each story (issue type) that is tied to a current sprint.
  • SO, lets say -- there are 4 user stories in a sprint commitments, and as soon as I hit start the sprint, jira automation should then be able to create a set of subtasks under each of the 4 story (issue type), as they're part of an active sprint.

can you please help me figure this out? Do not want manual triggered automation, it should trigger as soon as a sprint starts, and find which tickets it needs to further add a set of subtasks under each.

Hope my scenario makes sense?

Looking forward to being educated.

thanks in advance!

Hello @Yash R

You can do this with an Automation rule.

TRIGGER: Sprint Started

You will have to select the Board to which this rule will apply.

Add Component: New Branch

Select "Branch Rule/Related Issues"

For "Type of related Issues" select "Issues in the Sprint"

Then Add Component: New Action and choose Create Sub-tasks

You'll get a screen where you can set up the creation of multiple sub-tasks, filling in the data for the fields in each sub-task.
