JIRA Service Desk and JIRA Software

I was advised that I need to purchase JIRA software in order to manage my existing Service Desk project via Kanban.  I download the 30 free trail because we are currently looking into purchasing this add-on.

I went to create a Kanban board and pull my service desk project, and an error came up that the project must be a software project.

I thought the service desk projects can be pulled into Kanban??  Not sure I understanding .


Does anyone know what the issue is??
