How do you use JIRA for your PM team?

Curious to hear how some of you have configured your JIRA projects.

I would like to better leverage JIRA for the product management team to groom/prioritize their portfolios. 

How do you manage your flow from Feature Request --> PM Portfolio Backlog --> Active Development Backlog?

  • Do you have these set up as different projects? One per feature area?
  • Do you move issues from one to the other or do you duplicate? 
  • What statuses do you use to communicate progress/decisions? 
  • Any interesting JIRA add-ons that help PMs visualize and organize their backlogs?
