Edit option on Jira dashboard

The recent change to Jira dashboard  -  Edit Dashboard seems to be slowing down the actions. Earlier, each gadget had an edit option - which meant you only  reload one gadget that you are editing. With the current change, the entire dashboard is reloaded when you hit 'edit' (multiple gadgets/queries) and the same when you hit 'Done'. Any specific usecase that this change is meeting which wasn't available earlier?
