Why only few sub tasks that are moved to "Complete" status shows Resolution as "Done"?

Jonathan P February 20, 2024

Hello Team,

I have a Team Managed Project in JWM. I need help with the following scenarios I am facing...

1. Why do only a few sub-tasks moved to "Complete" status show Resolution as "Done", while others don't?

2. And because of the above issue, though the sub-task is marked as "Complete" by the assignee, in the activity report it shows as "Unresolved"

Please let me know how to resolve these scenarios. Thank you

Hi Jonathan - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You probably need to add a Post Function for the transition to Done to set the Resolution field. Only issues with this field populated are considered to be Resolved.

You can't add a post function to a Team Managed project workflow transition.

Hello @Jonathan P

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can you provide a screen image of some of these issues including ones that do and do not show a resolution value?

When were the issues that are missing Resolutions transitioned to the "Complete" status vs. the issues that do show Resolutions?

Can you also provide a screen image showing the board for your JWM project?

Hi @Trudy Claspill please find the answers to your questions.

1. Can you provide a screen image of some of these issues including ones that do and do not show a resolution value?

Above are images of the sub-tasks, which show the resolution "Done" next to complete and some sub-tasks although they are Complete, they don't show the resolution "Done".

2. When were the issues that are missing Resolutions transitioned to the "Complete" status vs. the issues that do show Resolutions?

I don't know. I compared the issues but didn't see any major difference. Both issues show the same workflow also.

3. Can you also provide a screen image showing the board for your JWM project?

Sorry, I can't provide the image. But the board has columns arranged in the following sequence. Intake-Backlog-Active-Onhold-Complete-Rejected-Ongoing.

You can find out when an issue was transitioned to Complete by reviewing the History information for the issue. There is a tab for that at the bottom of the issue view screen in the same area as Comments.

There was a time when issues transitioned to green/done statuses specifically in JEM projects were not automatically setting the Resolution field. Atlassian released a fix for that sometime last year I believe. If the issues missing Resolution were transitioned long ago, that could be the reason.
