We have activated time recording in the issues. You can log the time within the tasks. However, we have difficulties reading out these times. Under Reports, you can only ever see the total time for the project. Is it not possible to set this up in more detail at this point? For example, if you want to see the recorded times for person xy for the month of January 2024?
Alternatively, a column for time tracking in the list view of the tasks might also be a good idea, but I can't find the time tracking field at all when selecting the columns.
Many thanks to all of you.
Basically, my question has been answered in that the best way would be via additional apps. We'll just test out apps and see which one is most suitable for us.

Hi @Sönke Neise
Not sure if the native reports can help with detailed resource level time tracking.
If you would like to try out a mkt place app, you try the add-on we have developed.
Worklogs Time Tracking & Timesheets
The app allows to filter/Categorize/Group By your worklogs data and a timesheet view too to track individual time spent.

Hi @Sönke Neise
Manual time tracking has always been available in Jira, but the reporting itself was left to app vendors and customers to organise, and for a good reason.
As Solution Partners, we've done a lot of research on that, and it turns out that every organisation has very different requirements around how they want the time-tracking reports to look.
Our customers opt for the combination of the following, depending on their maturity level:
1. Extract the data for the reporting into a BI tool like PowerBI or Tableau.
2. Use timesheeting and reporting apps like Tempo and others.
3. Or use something lightweight like what we build for ourselves as a support team - EasyTime - Automatic Time Tracking that logs time as you work on your Jira issues or Confluence pages, instantly and automatically and then presents the work logs in a very simple way either for an individual or for a team.
Feel free to reach out if you need help setting any of the products up.

Hi @Sönke Neise
Unfortunately, Jira lacks time-tracking reports, but ActivityTimeline is a great alternative app for time-tracking.
An automatic time tracker allows users to focus on their tasks without the worry of tracking when they begin working on them. All worklogs submitted through Jira are smoothly loaded, ensuring that you always have accurate and up-to-date numbers at your fingertips.
ActivityTimeline also offers to report by diverse categories: project, epic, and custom fields, so you know where the time is getting spent.
Since 2011, we've been all about taking Jira projects to the next level. We're here and eager to help you out! Got any questions or if you think a free demo session would be helpful, we'd be thrilled to set that up for you.

Hi @Sönke Neise
It's Mary from Planyway for Jira
I would recommend you to try Planyway app. It'll natively insert in your Jira cards so that you can track time right there. Plus our time entries are linked with Jira time tracking field by default. All data is then gathered in the customizable reports.

Hi @Sönke Neise

In Jira Work Management, while the standard reports provide useful insights, they might not always meet all specific needs, such as detailed time tracking reports for individual team members over specific periods. Here are some ways to approach your requirements:
For more detailed time tracking reports, including the ability to see recorded times for a specific person over a specific period (like January 2024), you may need to explore a few options:
Jira Dashboards: Customize a dashboard with gadgets that report on work logs. The "Work Log Report" gadget, if available, can help track individual time logs. You may also explore other gadgets that can be configured to show time tracking information.
Jira Filters: Create a filter to show issues with work logs for a specific period, then use the "Work Log" attribute to see detailed entries. This requires some JQL (Jira Query Language) skills. For instance, to see work logs for a specific user in January 2024, you might use a query like worklogAuthor = "username" AND worklogDate >= "2024-01-01" AND worklogDate <= "2024-01-31"
. The results can then be exported or used with gadgets on a dashboard for reporting.
Marketplace Apps: Consider exploring third-party apps available in the Atlassian Marketplace. Many apps offer enhanced time tracking and reporting features that go beyond the default capabilities of Jira Work Management. These apps can provide detailed reports by user, project, and specific time frames. For example, you can experiment with Planyway for Jira which does exactly what you are looking for.
