@Loren Smith - While the approvals feature will continue to be available for business projects, it’s currently under consideration to be added for software projects in the future.
Since the announcement of this I had been asked lots of question that I can only assume which I don't want to do. One of the question that is relevant is: "Will multiple boards still be an option?"
Currently in JWM only one board is allowed and for JSW multiple boards are allowed. What will be the outcome of the merger?
The other question is will the summary page from JWM be part of the new Jira?
The last and final question will Approval become part of Jira? As they are being integrated to JWM this would seem that it is available in Jira.

@Aaron Geister - We have plans to integrate the Summary view into Jira across business and software projects, and Approvals is under consideration to be added for software projects in the future.
Thanks for the feedback about enabling multiple boards for business projects! We will definitely share that with our product team. Multiple boards will continue to be available for software projects in Jira.
When we start to just call it Jira like the old days I think that all of the new feature will be very import to keep the product as powerful as it is to add those different feature to the merged Jira. Thanks for the consideration of my thoughts and if ever you want reach out as I would love to help guide any of this from an Administration side.
Regarding the Approvals feature possibly coming into software projects, we would appreciate the JSM approvals flexibility of selecting an option for the number of approvers needed for an approval step.
In Jira work management, the tasks disappeared within 2 weeks (14 days) from the board when they were marked as done. Will this also be the case in the new "Jira" if I create a team managed kanban project? Or is the problem now solved with this change?
New interfaces have landed in JSW for project creation. Made a Scrum and a Kanban project - Team Managed - and checked out the board settings.
There are no settings to control the display of Done issues (like the Company Managed projects).
However, there is a new settings interface called Custom Filters, where you could build something that filters off Done issues, but it applies to multiple areas as described in this screenshot.
Depending on your use case, you might want to keep done issues on a Timeline.
I'm also in a situation when I find its hard to justify more than 250% license cost increase, as my company is having a higher tier for a JWM Standard license and much lower JS Premium one.
Considering new calculations, we will be forced to move all users to a premium license, also to accept a higher tier not only for Jira product itself, but also for apps. I would like to add that even before we were forced to pay for a higher tier for apps, while they were only user for a smaller amount of JS users; now the outcome becomes even more difficult to sustain.
Will there be any tailored solutions available to lower impact of this migration except for 10% discount mentioned in the FAQs?

@Anastasiya Pityukina - We understand that this change may not affect all organizations the same, and provided some answers to common questions here. If you are in contact with a dedicated rep, please feel free to reach out to them to discuss your concerns. If you haven’t worked with a rep before, our support team is always available to help.
@Melanie Stevens - You should already be able to use the newly announced features in Jira with your Jira Software plan. To access Jira Work Management, you can click on the App switcher icon in the top left corner of the nav and select Jira Work Management. Click "Create Project" and select any of the templates from the “Work Management” tab to create a business project.
We have a new group of JIRA users in our organization, (non development) which started making use of JWM. However, for some projects we do see the benefit of having a backlog or spint functionality.
If the merge would be fully completed, will the former JWM project also have the ability to add a backlog function or enable the sprint option as well?
That might save creating new projects and moving tickets around.

@Lianne Geerlings - Glad to hear that you're seeing the benefits of these updates! Sprints and backlogs will remain in software projects only for the time being, but we appreciate this feedback as we're continuing to evaluate future changes.
I am concerned about the license cost of Jira Software vs. Jira Work. Can Jira please explain? I have a separate user base and prefer the look and feel of Business Projects or Jira Work.
Can I still have the look and feel of the Jira Work Projects?
Is this going to raise costs for my company, users, and marketplace apps?
What is going to change after you force me over to Jira Software in early 2025? I have tons of custom workflows, issue types, etc, on Jira Work Projects. I can tell from all the documentation what is going to happen to those Jira Work Project features and designs that we have.
I hate to say this out loud, but we might need to review other products for Jira Work projects in the future to keep our costs low.
To provide general advice about possible cost impact we would need to understand your current environment better.
You said you have a separate user base. Do you mean a user base that only uses JWM and is separate from the user base that uses Jira Software? If so, how do you separate them?
Do you currently have an instance that has only JWM, or are you running an instance that has both JWM and Jira Sofware? Or do you have two entirely separate instances; one for JWM and one for Jira Software?

The functionality you currently have in JWM will continue to work. The merging of JWM and Jira Software into a single product will give you additional functionality that is currently only available if you have Jira Software installed on your instance.
Hi there and thanks for coming to community with your question. I'm an Atlassian on the Jira team and can answer some of your questions and point you to some documentation.
First off, the good news is that nothing about the products is really changing. JWM sits upon the Jira platform and your data and projects already lives in Jira. You'll continue to have access to Jira Business projects and they'll still look the same with some minor UI updates and all your current projects will continue to exist. Your users will now have access to all types of projects and will receive some new features that were only available in one or the other.
The current plan is for JWM users to be automatically migrated to either an existing or new Jira project in the beginning of 2025. In your case, your two Jira instances would be merged into one so now it's just one license. No data migration will be necessary as your data is already in Jira. Your pricing will not change until your next renewal after migration at which point you will automatically get a 10% discount for 12 months after renewing on Jira. Please check out the FAQ for purchasing and licensing here.
If you have any other specific questions about your situation, please feel free to ask here or create a ticket with our support team.
HI. my organization runs Jira Software Data Center and Jira Align. We absolutely would like to incorporate Jira Work Management for our business teams to use, but this linked comment indicates the integration is not coming for Data Center. Can you confirm that is the case and that it's not on the Data Center version roadmap for future integration? Also, if it is not coming to the data center version, are we able to purchase Jira Work Management licenses for our business users AND, can we have Work Management projects appear in boards along with Datacenter projects?
No, Jira Service Management is a separate product and subscription.
There previously was three products to which you could subscribe:
- Jira Work Management
- Jira Software
- Jira Service Management
This announcement is about the combination of only the first two. Jira Service Management remains a separate product with a separate subscription cost.
I am a bit confused by the different comments and explanations. My team and I are currently working with JWM, but we were considering switching to Jira Software in order to implement sprints. However, can we expect to have access to backlogs and sprints on JWM (team-managed projects) in early 2025 when the merge is fully implemented?
Has there been any progress or update/eta on adding the approval functionality found in Jira Work Management projects to Jira Software projects? Now with forms available in Jira Software Projects, Approvals on the only thing holding us back from switching.
The ease of use and reporting (for SOX audits) is something we are unwilling to sacrifice! Please add approvals to Jira Software Projects ASAP!!!
