Hello.
We are currently using Jira for project management. We have setup an issue collector so our testers can send bug reports. They have to write their name and email address to the report. This is because our testers are not Jira users, so we have had no problems until now.
However, we want to setup an automation that sends email to project management and to the issue reporter when the issue is resolved. We have successfully setup the system, so our project manager gets email. However, we have issue with our reporters.
Since vast majority of them are not in Jira, and bringing them in is not currently feasable, the issue reporter is assigned to default issuer. That would be me. We have few testers who are in Jira and they are correctly assigned as the reporters.
However, the description field does contain their email. What I would like to know is there a way for me to fetch this email field from the description and pass it as a variable to the email sender?
Hi Tommi,
Why not just create a short text custom field and then capture the email address in there? Then you can use that field in Automation For Jira to send an email to.
Hmm, how do you do that? I know how to add fields, but how exactly do I add specific field to the recipien list? Something like {{issue.email}}?
Or more specifically, how do I catch email from the bug reporter (issue collector) so it automatically transfers to new email field?

I don't know where the email goes in your issue collector - you will need to research that. Or add a field to the collector and have the user put their email in it.
Yes, for the recipient list - just use the field name. For instance if your custom field is just called email, then it would be {{issue.email}}. When you type that in, there should be a little box that pops up that you need to click on that says Use smart value {{issue.email}} or something like that.
Give it a test and see if it works for you!

Thanks. I'll give it a shot and report back once I figure it out.
