Nouman Aziz May 18, 2021

Hi All,

currently, I am using Jira software server v8.5.6. what If I upgrade it to v8.17;

I have the following questions regarding upgrades.

  1. Is there any impact on the license by upgrading to v8.17. like my license will be the same or I need to purchase it again? my license will expire in August 2021.
  2. is there any impact on the current configuration or any loss of data?

HI Nouamin, welcome to the Atlassian Community!

  1. You can keep your existing license. Actually you are paying for updates by having a license. So as long as your license is valid on the day of the upgrade you can proceed
  2. There should be no data loss. The upgrade mechanism performs an in place upgrade in the same database. Same for configuration.
    But of course an upgrade on a test environment is always advisable.
    You can also review the relase notes for every intermediate version between your current version and your target version. Here is the overview for 8.17

Good luck!
