How to remove incorrect, completed sprint from completed ticket?

Edited

Hello. I've identified several tickets were tagged with multiple teams' sprints. I believe what happened was the ticket originally started out with one team and tagged with their sprint, was later identified different team (my team) would be the appropriate one and it was then tagged with our sprint, but it was missed to remove previous team's sprint from the ticket.

Once the ticket was completed, it was marked as done, but is now showing up in both sprints. JIRA does not allow you to remove completed sprints from the ticket. I found an old post where someone posted a workaround. It worked to remove the old sprints. In that post, instructions were to then go back in and add correct sprint. I'm getting an error message, however, saying "Issue can be assigned only active or future sprints". Unsure if old post is using jira cloud.

Is this a priv/setting we can adjust? If not, is there another way besides the post I found to be able to correct this?

Thanks,

Amanda

Hello @Amanda Ross

Welcome to the community.

If I understand your problem correctly you want to remove issues from an old sprint that is already completed, and you also want to add issues to another old sprint that is also already completed. Is that correct?

And it sounds like you have been successful in removing the issues from the old completed sprint, correct?

As I understand the post, you cannot add issues to already completed sprints, either by individually editing the issue or by using Bulk Change, without Reopening the sprint.

(Note per the tags on that old post, yes it applies to Jira Cloud)

Hi Trudy. Thanks for getting back to me.

If I understand your problem correctly you want to remove issues from an old sprint that is already completed, and you also want to add issues to another old sprint that is also already completed. Is that correct?

Yes. We completed an issue that had two different teams' sprints tagged on it: one incorrect, one correct. The work is complete, and both teams' sprints are complete. I want to remove the incorrect team's sprint from the issue and only have the correct team's sprint on tagged on the issue.

And it sounds like you have been successful in removing the issues from the old completed sprint, correct?

Yes. Per the post I found, I was able to do a bulk edit and remove the old sprint, however, those instructions result in removing all old sprints. This would include the correct one.

As I understand the post, you cannot add issues to already completed sprints, either by individually editing the issue or by using Bulk Change, without Reopening the sprint.

This is what I concluded. Just wanted to check here to see if there is something else I could do.

Hi @Amanda Ross

I am also facing the same issues and unable to get thru.
Pl help me removing one old completed sprint out of two closed sprints an issue is tagged to. I need to remove one wrong sprint from the issues but it is showing same error, that issue can be tagged to active or future sprint.

PL help, if you have found the solution.

Thanks

Has anyone been able to find a way to do this?
