Creating Story "Resolution Field" is required

I setup a workflow and now the "Resolution field" is required upon Creating a Story Issue.  What is the problem?

You've almost certainly set it mandatory in the field configuration, although you might have done it with a workflow validator.

Do you have the field on screen though?  You should only ever put resolution on "issue view" (not that you actually need to, as JIRA will display it whether it's on the screen or not) and "transition to an end status transition screens", never on create or edit screens.
