CSV Import --> Issue is not assigned to Epic

uweiss April 20, 2021

1.) Import a CSV to create an Epic

Baseline is an Excel-Sheet. Only line 6 and 7 will be imported. In the first step I only create an Epic.

I have 3 lines, because I demonstrate what happens if some fields are initial. As a result the epics are creates, but also some import warnings.

Hence I assume the Epic Link and Epic Name is not relevant for issues with issue-type epic.

2.) Import a CSV to create a Task that is assigened to the Epic

Now I import Tasks. I try to assign the Tasks to the Epic. I assume that the Epic-Name and the Epic-Link has to be used in order to create that link between Task and Epic.

Anyway I receive some warnings and the created tasks are not assigned.

I am facing these warnings for Task 1:

Ø2021-04-20 08:29:12,886 WARN - Cannot add value [ [Summary for Epic 2] ] to CustomField Epic Link in Issue with summary 'Summary for Task 2'. Probably value was in incorrect format

I am facing these warnings for Task 3:

Hi @uweiss ,

Welcome to the community.

The link between Epic and child-issue works like this: The Epic has an "Epic name", the issue that links to an epic has an "Epic link" that refers to the "Epic name" of an epic. So you must make sure that issues have no Epic name and Epics have no Epic link

Let's go over your warnings:

- Task 1 -> You entered an Epic name for a Task, that does not work, only Epic link here

- Task 2 -> You entered an "Epic link" that does not yet exist as "Epic name" on an Epic, or isn't in your import as "Epic name", so the import fails

- Task 3 -> Same as task 1 and 2 combined

You can find more info about this here.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

- Tessa

Hi Tessa,

many thanks for your help!

In the first step I created epics. Hence I thought that the epics are created in a proper way.

I received this warnings:

Epic 1

2021-04-20 08:13:35,206 INFO - Importing issue: [externalId='autoid--4617773058702095199', summary='Summary for Epic 1']

2021-04-20 08:13:35,230 WARN - Cannot set value for locked custom field 'Epic Name' in issue 'Summary for Epic 1' because it is not applicable for issue type 'Epic'

Epic 2

2021-04-20 08:13:35,733 WARN - Cannot add value [ [Summary for Epic 2] ] to CustomField Epic Link in Issue with summary 'Summary for Epic 2'. Probably value was in incorrect format

2021-04-20 08:13:36,058 INFO - Importing issue: [externalId='autoid-1787295250229436731', summary='Summary for Epic 3']

2021-04-20 08:13:36,058 WARN - Cannot set value for locked custom field 'Epic Name' in issue 'Summary for Epic 3' because it is not applicable for issue type 'Epic'

Epic 3

2021-04-20 08:13:36,130 WARN - Cannot add value [ [Summary for Epic 3] ] to CustomField Epic Link in Issue with summary 'Summary for Epic 3'. Probably value was in incorrect format

If you say "Task 2 -> You entered an "Epic link" that does not yet exist as "Epic name" on an Epic, or isn't in your import as "Epic name", so the import fails

--> Are the Epics I created the step before wrong?

Besides, if I create a Task manually, I don't see the Epic-Link-Field:

Do you think the field-schema is customized wrong?

Many Thanks
