I am currently working on a Java project to create users in Jira and add them to groups using the Jira Rest API. I have run into a problem using the Add user to group endpoint (The Jira Cloud platform REST API (atlassian.com))

The request body requires the use of an accountId to add a user to a group as the username parameter is no longer available. But I am using a Server/Datacenter to host the Jira and the user data from the Find User or Get User endpoints does not contain an accountId. I have seen other posts in this community claiming that only Jira Cloud users have an accountId attatched to their account. So I was wondering how I can add a user to a group using an the API for a Server/Datacenter instance of Jira?

Hi @Ryan Tracey,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

You cannot use the Cloud API to add users to groups on Jira DC, you have to use the API for DC which you can find here. Jira DC do not use the accountId so you should be able to add them based on their username in your environment.
