What is the difference between Customers set under Customers and the customer project role

Adrienne McCoy June 30, 2021

There are 2 locations within Jira Service Management (server version) where I can set Customers.

1 - Customers on the left sidebar under Queues. I know this list is driven by the setting used in Customer permissions under Project Settings.

2 - The Service Desk Customer role under Users and Roles.

Is there a difference between the two customer lists?

Hi @Adrienne McCoy ,

you can add customers to your project both ways, but there are some differences in functionality:

  • Customer overview (side bar)
    • see all customers for your projects and search through them
    • add customers to organizations
    • all agents have access to this page
  • Service Desk customer roles (Users & roles)
    • add user groups to customers -> all users in the group will be added to the Customer page
    • only available for (project) admins

Hope this helps!

- Tessa
