How to move custom field data to a different custom field type.

I have a few custom fields that my team feels need to be changed. For example one field is currently a "Label" field. We would like that field to be a "Single Line Text Field". Since i know that there is now way to change a field type my question is; Is there a way that i can make the new field and then import from that label field to the new text field?
