How do I install Jira Service Desk after installing Jira Software?

Lee Grainger February 28, 2019

I am trying to install Jira Service Desk after installing Jira Software on an Ubuntu server. This is the message I get:

You can't use the upgrader to downgrade JIRA Service Desk.

I am trying to install Service Desk 4.0.0. I have Jira Software 8.0.1 installed.

@Lee Grainger You need to download JIRA Service Desk application v4.0.0 from here: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1213632/jira-service-desk/version-history and install it via "Upload an application" link shown in the screenshot above.

You will also need a new license for JIRA Service Desk.

Thank you. Unless I missed something, I have tried both of those. I purchased a starter license for my server. And this is what happens when I try to updload the application.

No error messages appear. But nothing sees to change.

Any thoughts? Thank you so much for your help.

@Lee Grainger Please check JIRA application logs (atlassian-jira.log located in JIRA home directory) to see if there are any errors in the logs while you try to install JIRA Service Desk. It might give you clues as to what is the root cause of your issue.

@Lee Grainger

If you're using Jira Service Desk, you can update it directly in the UI, without downloading a separate installer.

  1. Go to JIRA Administration > Applications > Versions and licenses.
  2. Update Jira Service Desk. This will automatically update Service Desk to a compatible version.

Please let me know if you are doing the same thing or something different.

Thank you for your suggestion. Perhaps I am missing something. This is what my Versions and Licenses view looks like:
