Full issue entry screen for Sub-tasks in new issue view?

Shannon February 20, 2020

We will be rolling out Jira Service Desk in June and generally like the new issue view. However, the Create Sub Task action button on the new issue view only prompts the agent for a summary. We need the agents to fully populate the subtask with other required information like component and assignee every time. Without a screen that we can control with required fields, sub tasks will be prone to error in entry and won't work for us.

Therefore, we will have to use the create issue screen and then link issues, but this isn't the way linking should be used and comes with it's own set of problems.

Without having to revert to the old issue view, is there another way to screen pop the create issue screen?

Hello @Shannon

Thank you for reaching out.

Indeed, the new issue view does not provide a create issue screen when clicking to create a new sub-task, however, you enforce the create issue screen to pop-up by adding any field as required to the create issue screen of the sub-task.

These would be the steps:

1 - Navigate to your project > Project Settings > Field

2 - Set any field displayed in your sub-task issue as required

Additionally, we have a feature request to have the create issue screen option without the need of required fields:

Allow the Create Issue screen to be shown when creating sub-tasks in the Detail Issue View

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

Let us know if this information helps.

Once I enforced a required field, I received this error.

Any idea what I did wrong?

Hello @Shannon

The error you're facing seems to be related to the bug below, where the sub-task project is configured with a default assignee that does not have the assignable user permission:

Generic error message in the new view when creating a subtask

Can you please check if this is the problem? You can see the message below in the javascript console of your browser:

{"errorMessages":[],"errors":{"assignee":"The default assignee does NOT have ASSIGNABLE permission OR Unassigned issues are turned off."}}

If that's the case, please add the default assignee with the proper permissions or remove it from your project.
