Diffrent translation in customer portal

Kerstin Elsner January 7, 2021

Hello, my english is not great, but I am trying.
We want to introduce JIRA SERVICE DESK to the customer and are currently testing everything.

  1. When I log into the portal as a German customer, everything is first displayed in English, even though I have set my customer profile in German in the portal.
  2. If I open a ticket in the portal, different languages and translations are displayed. (see the screenshot). Is that a bug or do I have to make further settings somewhere else? The browser is also set to German.

Thanks for help !!

Hi @Kerstin Elsner

If you need a multilanguage Knowledge Base on Jira Service Desk / Management, you can take a look also at Lango: Language and translation manager.

It's an add-on for Confluence Cloud and can be easily integrated on the Jira Service Desk articles.

Hi @Kerstin Elsner ,

The translations for your portal might need to be fine tuned a bit :)

Some of them come out of the box but not all of them are as perfect as you'd like.

When you go to your project settings you will see a menu "Language Support"

All the items that can be translated for the portal will be shown there. It's best to verify

  1. Which languages have been enabled for your portal
  2. What the translations are that have been set

It could be that someone just added some German translations on the English language pack so that's why you are getting mixed names/translations.

If no languages have been set for the portal yet it will default to the system language (most likely English) no matter what your profile says. You need to manually tell JIRA (in your settings) what languages to offer as a translated option to your customers.

Hi Kerstin,

Are your agents also German speaking, or will they be using a mixture of languages?

If you're a Jira system administrator, I am wondering if you can check the system default language for me:

I am wondering if the default system languages affect the "Share" and attachment file fields.

Is it English or German for your Jira?

Cheers, Jimmy

Hi. In my daily life, I have a lot of things to translate and rephrase related to work. I am not really qualified in Jira Service. I am using Trello and translation services. I consider your desk should be more multiple taking into account design. And it will be comfortable for an eye if you will change the backside color from white to purple for example. It is a relaxing one. Anyway, I wish you will find a solution and would introduce it to customers. Good luck.
