Are there users of JIRA Service Desk that are successfully using an Asset Management tool other than Insight?

Hi Corie,

We have been using Assets and Inventory plugin and we are very happy with it so far. It works for Service Desk customer portal. Support is good and they add new features regularly.

Cheers.

Hello Corie,

not adding to the list of proper asset management tools but maybe think about a different approach: we have dedicated Jira projects to manage our assets with each asset being a Jira issue.

In order to simplify searching, especially for JSD portal customers, we use an issue picker custom field. That custom field type can be used to link issues with the set of issues to be linked being restricted by JQL. Additionally, data from the linked issues can be copied to the original one. We use our own app for that (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1218048/issue-picker-for-jira?hosting=server&tab=overview) but there are others in the marketplace with the same feature.

So, you could, for example, limit the list of possible options to the ones assigned to the current user if you have a JSD project for internal customers requesting service for their assigned assets like laptops and mobile phones.

Hope that helps :-)

Hello Corie,

Assets and Inventory Plugin for Jira is a good alternative. It supports Jira Service Desk customer portal and have nice options with a lean design:

  • Flexible asset screen design
  • Very fast Asset Navigator with filtering and sorting options - just like issue Navigator
  • Easy insert/update/delete asset operations on asset navigator with keyboard shortcuts.
  • Ability to link issues to assets with asset custom field
  • Multiple asset custom fields with content configuration option
  • Bulk insert/update with CSV (Excel)
  • QR Code support
  • Ability to update asset or issue fields with custom asset workflow post functions
  • Attachments support for assets with image gallery view

Best wishes.

Hi @Corie Snyder

To have a combination of an issue picker and an asset management solution based on native Jira features (and therefore providing out-of-the-box compatibility with all Jira features and most of the other add-ons that you might be using), check out STAGIL Assets!

Best,
Daniel
