Hello,

We are hoping to create a simple list to inventory 20 to 30 items such as copiers/printers/scanners. Wondering if Assets in Jira Service Management is a good tool to use for that purpose.  We currently use Jira Service management as our facilities ticketing system.

Thanks.

Hi @rsanchez welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Sure, Assets can be used in a very simple and limited way:

  1. Create an object schema for Assets
  2. Create an object type 'Hardware' or 'Equipment' within your object Schema
  3. Define the attributes for your hardware:
    1. Make (could reference another object type)
    2. Model (could reference another object type)
    3. Serial Number
    4. Purchase Date
    5. Warranty valid until Date
    6. Status
    7. ...
  4. Create an object type 'Printer' within your object Schema
  5. Create an object type 'Scanner' within your object Schema
  6. Create an object type 'Copier' within your object Schema
  7. Inherit the 'Hardware' attributes to the child object types 'Copier', 'Printer' and 'Scanner'
  8. Create an object for each printer (1 object = 1 entry)

Once you get to know Assets, I'm sure you'll add many other object types in your database schema.

Hi @rsanchez and welcome to the Community!

Assets seems like a pretty good fit for what you describe. I hope you plan to do more with that list apart from just putting it away to never look at it again 😛

Putting it in assets allows you to integrate it nicely in your service desk as well.

Hope this helps!

Hi @rsanchez ,

Yes, Assets will be the perfect fit for your requirements. But you just need to know about assets and how to create and use them in the projects. Below are a few links that you can use for your reference to learn more about assets.

Documents:

I hope these give you a starting point for learning Assets in JSM.

Thank you.
