Ability to send a ticket into Jira through SMS

Is there a way for our customers to text in issues in addition to emailing them in?

Not OOTB. I would suggest looking at chat-sms-for-jira-service-management addon and also have a look at Halp or similar solutions that give your customers a means of instant message like interactions.

Omnichat for Jira Service Management can be a solution for you. The solution  is powered by Infobip (the best omnichannel communication provider in the world)

The solution provides integration with WhatsApp and SMS into Jira.
