1 project per application or one project for my organization?

Pablo January 7, 2025 edited

Hello,

I would like to have a best practice tip for setting up Jira SM.

Context :

  • We're looking into setting up Jira SM. We already have Jira Software, Confluence and Bitbucket.
  • In our organization we have ~30 distinct applications/services with different user communities.
  • In Jira Software we have 1 project per application/service. In Bitbucket, this is mainly the case too.
  • We cannot use Cloud versions of Atlassian products.

Question :

My question is, is it better to have just one ITSM project for our entire organization or to align with our Jira Software configuration, i.e. 1 project per application/services?

Any other advice is welcome!

Hi Pablo - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

If you have different user communities for each application where they might be creating JSM tickets/requests, I would suggest you have a different JSM project for each one - that way you can control which users see which projects in the Portal.

And you can still connect any/all of the JSM projects to whatever Software projects that you want to.

Thank you John for your reply.
So a good route would be to align with our customer organization. I like this approach, thank you.

Yes, that would be most likely what I would do in that situation.
