Welcome to the community.  By default if you comment on the issue where your customers created, you don't need to @ mention the customer when your comment is "Shared with customer" and not "Shared Internally".  The customer who created or participating the issues will be notified automatically.  He/she will also be able to access the issues via the portal UI.
