Why is the filter "Group by -> Assignee" not working?

When I go to "List" and then go to "Group by" and then "assignee" nothing happens, everything looks as disorganized as before. 

I used this filter everyday for the last couple months, it is really essential to my job. Does anyone know why it suddenly stopped working?
