📣 Product update: what's shipped recently and coming soon

Hi everyone, in the past week we've turned on 2 new features for you.

Compact cards

A few of you told us that you loved the flexibility that comes with custom fields and views, but that it comes at the cost of information density. It's not an easy problem to solve, but we gave it a try: you can now choose how you want to display cards in the board and timeline views:

It's not perfect as we had to deal with a whole bunch of constraints, but we think it should help in a lot of combinations of field types (assuming you didn't add 10 in a single board view 😅)

Real-time updates for view configurations

A few of you told us that you were sometimes losing configuration changes or that the system wasn't saving them. This one had us scratch our heads for a while until we figured out what happened: if you have multiple browser window opened and made configuration changes in different windows, it was easy to get in that situation.

To fix this we basically made it so every change to a view's configuration is automatically updated, a few seconds later, across all browser windows, for everyone with the view currently opened.

This applies to everything except when you change field configuration (we'll get to that later). For example, if I change the card layout in one browser:

Coming soon: reactions!

We heard 2 types of feedback about the way the "Votes" field work today: you either love it, or you hate it. Fair enough. We're exploring a feature that lets you gather feedback in a suuuper lightweight way: using reactions! Something that's become kind of a standard across collaboration apps today. For the people who were asking us "can I set up a vote so people can just come in a press a button and be done with it?" that's probably a good one to try. It will be supported in all views.

Coming soon: negative input to weighted scores

Many of you were wondering how to consider something like "Effort" in a formula, initially looking at the weighted score formula. Our response was to use a "write your own" formula instead. Well, enough of you have left that feedback that we've decided to add the option to add inputs that contribute negatively to a weighted score 😅

Coming soon: hide empty columns for a board

Following on the ability to hide empty groups in list, board and timeline views, you'll soon be able to hide empty columns for boards: if there's no idea in the view with a value for a field option, the corresponding column will be hidden. It will show again if there's an idea that gets this field option.

Coming soon: new access screen

In preparation for the general availability of Jira Product Discovery and the launch of the Free and Standard editions, we're reviewing how the access screen works - to make it clear who can do what. We'll create a separate announcement when that's shipping, with more details so you can have the time to prepare for this.

@Tanguy Crusson great news!

I really like the reactions feature. Regarding filtering could you add an option to Any other value but the selected ones (!=) and show issues where a given filed is or is NOT EMPTY to the filtering arsenal?

@Tanguy Crusson Looooooove compact cards. Nice job! Looking forward to seeing negative inputs to formula fields, too!

@Ákos Botos We're currently building support for JQL, which would enable that. It's still going to take a bit of time before it lands.

@Tanguy Crusson that is the best news. JQL is the most flexible way for those not afraid using it. As I have requested it too I am really happy it is coming.

Wow, great updates! Thank you for sharing, @Tanguy Crusson 🎉

Big thumbs up for reactions and compact cards! Thanks, @Tanguy Crusson and JPD Team!

Re: compact cards.

Would love to see several rating fields on the cards. But they need a lot of horizontal space.

Maybe you could come up with a smaller visual representation? Smaller bullets or so.

No need for the full size rating icons/dots here - in fact, seeing them full size sometimes led to confusion on our end because at first, you think you can interact with the rating dots.

Hi @Tanguy Crusson

Any chance of getting the field name of a displayed value on compact card?

Use cases

  1. When multiple user picker fields added it is not clear from card which person is in which role
  2. Multiple "roadmaps" with same(colour) Now, Next, Later values

Dear sir, when "priority"? :)
