Hi everyone, in the past week we've turned on 2 new features for you.
A few of you told us that you loved the flexibility that comes with custom fields and views, but that it comes at the cost of information density. It's not an easy problem to solve, but we gave it a try: you can now choose how you want to display cards in the board and timeline views:
It's not perfect as we had to deal with a whole bunch of constraints, but we think it should help in a lot of combinations of field types (assuming you didn't add 10 in a single board view π )
Real-time updates for view configurations
A few of you told us that you were sometimes losing configuration changes or that the system wasn't saving them. This one had us scratch our heads for a while until we figured out what happened: if you have multiple browser window opened and made configuration changes in different windows, it was easy to get in that situation.
To fix this we basically made it so every change to a view's configuration is automatically updated, a few seconds later, across all browser windows, for everyone with the view currently opened.
This applies to everything except when you change field configuration (we'll get to that later). For example, if I change the card layout in one browser:
We heard 2 types of feedback about the way the "Votes" field work today: you either love it, or you hate it. Fair enough. We're exploring a feature that lets you gather feedback in a suuuper lightweight way: using reactions! Something that's become kind of a standard across collaboration apps today. For the people who were asking us "can I set up a vote so people can just come in a press a button and be done with it?" that's probably a good one to try. It will be supported in all views.
Many of you were wondering how to consider something like "Effort" in a formula, initially looking at the weighted score formula. Our response was to use a "write your own" formula instead. Well, enough of you have left that feedback that we've decided to add the option to add inputs that contribute negatively to a weighted score π
Following on the ability to hide empty groups in list, board and timeline views, you'll soon be able to hide empty columns for boards: if there's no idea in the view with a value for a field option, the corresponding column will be hidden. It will show again if there's an idea that gets this field option.
In preparation for the general availability of Jira Product Discovery and the launch of the Free and Standard editions, we're reviewing how the access screen works - to make it clear who can do what. We'll create a separate announcement when that's shipping, with more details so you can have the time to prepare for this.
Cheers,
Tanguy and the Jira Product Discovery team
