I have come across an issue using the iOS app for Jira. This is the official app from Atlassian developer.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/jira-cloud-by-atlassian/id1006972087
When uploading a picture as an attachment it will upload using the native *.pvt file format IF the picture was taken using ‘live photo’ on your iPhone.
There are a couple ‘workarounds’
- Take regular picture with/without “Live Photo” turned on, copy picture from Photos app, paste in Jira app comment box for issue
- *image.jpg” (file name does not come across using this method)
- Take picture on iPhone with RAW turned on
- Turning on ‘RAW’ automatically turns off ‘Live Photo’
- You need to enable RAW in iPhone Settings > Camera > Formats > Apple ProRAW (iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max & iOS 14.3+ only)
- Saves as *.jpg
- Turn off live photo BEFORE you take the picture
- Upload via Jira app
- Saves as *.jpeg
- Take the picture and go to your photos app and take a screenshot of your picture (make sure the photo is full screen, can you crop out the black bars by editing the screenshot
- Upload screenshot via Jira app
- Saves as *.jpeg
- Take the picture and edit the photo by selecting ‘Markup’ which turns off ‘Live Photo’ even if no markups are made
- Upload via Jira app
- Saves as *.jpeg
- Open the Jira app to the issue and take a picture directly from the camera inside the Jira app
- Saves as *.jpg
I hope the Jira iOS get updated to properly handle live photos. The PVT file format has been in the iPhone since September 2017.
NOTE: test done on iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14.4.2, Jira app version 126.0.0 and then updated to version 127.0.0 (released 4/11/21) with same issues.
