We are on JIRA 6.4 and need to upgrade to the last version

Hi,

You documentation is not clear and makes loops.

We are on JIRA 6.4 Windows 64 Bit SQL server and need to upgrade to the last version 7.2.2.

I've guessed but not sure that we need to :

1) migrate 6.4 to 7.0.11

2) Upgrade 7.0.11 to 7.2.2

How is migration done ? we can't find any valuable documentation about that !

You don't need to do two steps (but you can if you want) - you can go straight from 6.4 to 7.2.x.

Given that you are going to a new major version (6.x -> 7.x) you need to consider which plugins you have installed because many of these will likely need to be upgraded too.

How is migration done ?

Basically you install the new version, and configure it to point at the existing jira.home directory.
Then shut down the old version, and start the new version.

It will read the DB config from jira.home and automatically run any required DB upgrades.
This might take a while - depending on how much data you have.

It is recommended to first test this on a separate server and to take a backup before you start.

You documentation is not clear and makes loops.

Feel free to raise a bug on https://jira.atlassian.com if there are specific problems in the docs.
