Hi guys.
I am not good at JQL but I use Jira nonetheless :)
Is there a way to add quick filter in may backlog view so that I can hide and show epics that were created in specific projects ... (because my board querry is set to gather multiple project tasks)
If any clarificatino is needed, please let me know :)
I think an Atlassian super user should explain why "when many people" want to filter out an EPIC in the Backlog we can't, what approach does atlassian take when using Enterprise Jira? I don't want every team to SIFT through all the backlog items. I want a way to refine the backlog by EPIC's. EPIC planning makes so much more sense than trying to plan all the work at the Team level, I'm not always sure the team at first....

There is no way to use quick filters to filter the epics in the side panel of the backlog. It's a suggested feature here.

Finally, Jira team, I‘ve waited a long time for this. Thank you and keep up the good work!
PS: now I „only“ need the Epics in the Epic panel in the Backlog of company-managed projects to be filtered (i.e. disappear) when I set quickfilters (just as in team-managed). Major pain in large projects.

Hi Fred - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Have you created any Quick Filters? If not, go to the main board, click on the 3 dots in the upper right and select Board Settings
Then click on Quick Filters on the left.

Thank you John.
Yes but which JQL formula would be appropriate to filter epics by projects they have been created into ?
Thanks

Quick filters can only work into the base board filter. So it can't include more projects than the board filter itself has. But basically, it will be issuetype = Epic

Hi John, Yes my board filter is already set to gather multiple projects .
But ideallly I would like a quick filter that displays only epics created in a specific project... Is that feasible ?

Sure - just create a filter like:
project = EXL and issuetype = Epic

Quick filters actually do not apply to the epics in the sidebar. You can filter to only stories, or have an empty backlog, and there will still be all the epics in the sidebar.

Yep, you are correct - sorry about that, was thinking on the board and not the backlog.

@John Funk Without the ability to filter the Epics in the side bar, it makes the backlog view unusable! (ie I can't see only the epics with status backlog / to do). Highly recommend adding this feature.

Does anyone know if a solution has been created yet? It's very frustrating having to filter through a huge epic list.

This functionality is in Jira data center. We just migrated to cloud and lost functionality.

@Dan O’Leary - from where did you get this screenshot? How do I reach this functionality in Jira DC?

@David Antebi This is the Epics panel within a Jira board. I assume that our self-hosted version is Data Center and not server. Also, the advanced query for a Jira board appears to not be in cloud too.

Thanks for your response, we're also using Jira DC but I can't find these extended capabilities in the Epics panel.
What version do you have?
Thanks.

+1 on this. The Epic panel list in the backlog view is overwhelming to navigate in as long at the quick filters do not apply. In case it helps I suggest we all head over to this feature request and vote for a fix: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-18474

Can we create a quick filter on Jira board to filter by an epic, what will be the JQL.
