How do I add icons after latest changes?

After latest update, old icons stopped working (the signs below no longer convert to icons). I have read changelog and it said that markdown support is online, so I tried markdown icons with no success. 

I find icons a great way to communicate as they are international and can help to spot what we want to see. Were they removed or is there a way to add them into descriptions / comments?

Hello Marek,

Are you using Cloud or Server?

If your on Jira Server, verify the fields are using the wiki render as covered in:

• Wiki markup does not work in text or comment field

If your On Cloud as covered in the "The new Jira issue view" documentation, the Markup is being Phased out in favor of mark down and the option is no longer available depending on the location you are editing:

The editor in the new issue view uses markdown rather than wiki markup. Right now, if you've added wiki markup in the old editor, we'll render it correctly in the new issue view.

As we continue to roll out the new issue view and new editor, wiki markup support will be phased out and eventually removed in favor of markdown.

And if you are on cloud please provide some feed on this feature request:

Hello Earl,

Thank you very much for your reply. 
We are using Jira Cloud.

I am OK with switching to markdown, as we keep our documentation in it. I only hoped that I could take advantage of markdown icons which we also use on our wiki pages (e.g. :ok: :+1: etc.). I haven't found a way to add icons to tasks / comments yet. I hope this feature is not abandoned.

About the inconsistency in markup/markdown support - on my Debian 9 Chrome 67 it consistently doesn't work, but I have noticed that some of my colleagues sometimes see old icons in tasks / comments.

Markup support could be useful for backward compatibility (as we wrote all our old tasks in it), but to me switching to markdown is not a big deal.

I think my reply vanished (?). 
Anyway - quick summary of my previous post:
* We use Jira Cloud
* Markdown works, but icons do not
* Some of my colleagues spotted that they sometimes see old icons and formatting (but mostly no icons are shown)
* I am OK with markdown, we used it for our documentation
* Markdown formatting works pretty fine

* Shutting down markup will make our old tasks look bad (as raw text), but I am fine with that as long as markdown works fine :)
