Default Dashboards

Myself and my other Jira Admins have been contemplating what else we might do with our Default Dashboard and would love to see what others are doing.

At the moment, we're using it as a dashboard displaying a viewer's most pertinent information. We built a series of default filters based on the 'currentUser()' value so any logged-in user can see their own information when they view it.

Most of the filters are native and based on easy JQL, but we did use Old Street Custom Charts for the buttons up the top-right hand side.

We've been promoting it to our new users for some time - a key reason for this is we started having users building their own personal dashboard (that most users don't end up using, and that we ended up cleaning out later). It's even a suggestion in our 'New User' documentation for them to set it as their default landing page.

So, does anyone have any cool, inventive ways to reuse this area? All suggestions welcome, please feel free to brag and show-off  :)

EDITED: Post edited as I assumed from conversations around Atlassian's new navigation coming to you in 2025 EAP indicated that the "Your Work" page will be revamped. Atlassian have not confirmed anything and my assumptions are only wishful speculation

A key thing to display is a the #/list of tickets that are assigned to you but were last updated by someone else.
In JSM, when a customer comments you need to decide whether the comment needs addressing or it's just a confirmation/thank-you.
Across Jira, if you're in charge of a ticket (and remain the assignee) but add someone else as a participant to help you take care of the ticket, you need to know when they've commented / done work.

Thats an excellent suggestion! We do have an automation that changes the status of a ticket to Pending Internal (from Pending Customer) if the Reporter responds to the ticket, however, if we are adding additional participants that automation doesn't work and those tickets are then easily overlooked. What is your solution to this?
Thank you!

I love the idea about tickets that were last updated by someone else. Our environment doesn't currently include JSM; Do you know any ways to achieve this in Jira (preferably without Scriptrunner)?

Hi Derek,
Thanks for asking - looks like I may have misinterpreted a conversation I had with my Customer Success contact. There's an EAP for Atlassian's new navigation coming to you in 2025 which I believe the 'Your Work' page is being seen as potentially in scope. Looking back at my discussion notes, I may have assumed that this was definitely part of the work, which hasn't been confirmed.

Apologies for any confusion caused!

Hi Kate,
I love the "relevant to me" section.
May I ask you how you built it? I didn´t find a matching gadget.

kind regards
Nicky

I used the Tile Chart in our 'Custom Charts' add-on by Old Street. Unfortunately, I can't think of a native way of replicating that

@Kate thanks for the brilliant template!

We have been using a similar template (mostly based on our own Report Builder tool and Jira native tools, the screenshot from non-prod instance is below for reference) for quite some time. In our setup, "current user" topics are all in the left column, while the right column is reserved for messages from management, other teams, project updates, global Atlassian announcements, and an overview of all projects and activities.

I think your template is super-practical and applicable for daily work compared to ours. The introduction format looks absolutely brilliant. We will definitely reuse some of your ideas for our default dashboards. Thank you!

Hi @Rustem Shiriiazdanov

also a nice dashboard version.
Is the "my work overview" section a two diomensonal query gadget?

kind regards
Nicky

Hi @Nicole Radle

Thanks! "My work overview" is not a 2-dimensional gadget, unfortunately. That's our own thing (we do really wanted to have 2 metrics to be seen at the same time for many dimensions). But you can imitate the same using two 2-dimensional gadgets, I believe.

Regards,

Rustem
