Can I become Jira Administrator with my background not in jira

Ankit Jain November 15, 2023

Hi,

I am from Desktop Support Engineer/IT Support background and done my basic studies.I am 35 years old and Never been into programming/coding side.

I landed on a job work from home where I got job for assigning jira tickets and some jira administration.I bought course from Udemy and learnt many thing JQL, Dashboards, little permissions and much more

But my company wants me to setup jira cloud instance with new workflows, screen, schemes.I found these terms very very confusing from those udemy courses and didn't understood. What should I do?Can I transition my career into jira administrator?I will be doing certifications from atlassian.

They are also using jira service management together with jira software for approval to tickets.

Hi @Ankit Jain ,

100% you can transform your career as Jira administrator. Now that you know how to assign tickets, work on tickets, you should concentrate on how it works from backend.
i.e.

  • How to create a new project
  • What is workflow and Workflow Schemes
  • What is Permissions Scheme and "Users and Roles"
  • What is Issue type and Issue type Scheme
  • What is screens and Screen schemes
  • How to map different schemes to project

Below links will surely answer above questions.

  1. You can have your own free Jira software and JSM cloud free site from https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/free
  2. Go trough each links in Jira cloud admin guide and try them in your free cloud instance.
  3. To be a JSM admin, go through the guide in  https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/get-started-with-jira-service-management/
