Good afternoon Admins,
My name is Bridgette Culpepper and I am a Program manager for a Finanical instuition, the reason for joining this group is to gain insight on being a Jira Admin as this will become my role when we totally migrate from remedy to Jira and I am trying to get ahead of the curve. I am looking forward to picking the brains of all of you well established admins so that I can be successful in my new role.
Thanks for welcoming me into the group.
Hi, and welcome @Bridgette Culpepper !
I highly recommend setting up a Jira instance you can play in, where you can try out the lessons you learn in Atlassian University for yourself, and play with things like custom fields, the various schemes (issue, screen, etc.), and even do some A/B testing with your stakeholders to determine the "shape" of your Jira instance.
One of the best (but also most difficult) things about Jira is that how a given company uses it is entirely up to that company. There's no such thing as a "right" way to do it, just some best practices. Getting up to speed for yourself and being confident in the building blocks that make up projects, screens, etc. will help you be confident in your implementation decisions, and help you give good feedback to your stakeholders.
Welcome aboard !!
I've been using JIRA for nearly 3 months, I've used a combination of support library, youtube videos and marketplace apps to set my framework up
So far, I've used:
- Structure (project planning/GANTT chart)
- Activity Timeline (workload planning/time capture/time reporting)
- Create from Template (reusable templates for projects, epics/stories/tasks etc)
- Shared Dashboard Viewer
- Invoices (billing into XERO)
There is so much content, it's a bit overwhelming at the start but as you focus on your specific requirements and how you need to run things you'll find lots of use cases/resources,
Good luck
Howdy @Bridgette Culpepper !
Jira can be overwhelming at first because of its plethora of features.
I am a "learning-by-doing" type, so I found launching a sandbox or dev instance to be quite helpful. You can play around with the configurations and see them in real time, instead of breaking something in your production instance.
Here are some resources that might be helpful to you!
Hope this helps! Have fun out there.
