Caveat: I'm relatively new to JIRA Align, am self-taught and am responsible for implementing JIRA Align for our existing teams. We currently have about a dozen ARTs and approximately 90 teams within our organization.

I'm looking to understand the sequences / best practices for adding a new team to existing ARTS (even during a PI...which is my current situation). Specifically, what is the suggested guidance for setting up the Anchor Sprints (sync'd with the rest of the ART) for this new team after things (i.e. Sprints) have already been established for the PI.

I'm familiar with the general sequence as described here (https://help.jiraalign.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005897808-Create-agile-teams) but this doesn't get into the specifics of establishing the Anchor Sprints etc.

Thanks in advance for the help!

@Bob Hunt

If each team does not have it's own Jira Project; the Program Jira Project is already integrated to JA and you have already parented the Team (based upon their board, which is done in Jira Management --> Add Board) (see screenshot), then the team will already be part of the Program.

  • You can validate the Team is part of the Program through Settings (cog in top right), scroll down to the Setup Section, select Programs and open the appropriate Program.
  • Inside here you will see (at the bottom of the Details Tab) the "Teams associated with the Program".
  • If you now navigate to the actual PI you will also see the Programs associated with the PI on the "Programs, Products, and Regions" tab that the Program is part of the PI.
  • Since the PI already has anchor sprints created (Sync Sprints tab), you don't need to create new achor sprints.

Once the team creates their actual Sprints to match the remaining Sprints in the PI and the Board is synced the sprints from their board (with appropriate dates) will appear in the Jira Sprints with their mapping to the JA Sprint

  • Naturally through the timers Jira Settings --> Jira Setup "Timer for Jira boards, sprints, and fix versions.
  • Manually through the Jira Settings -> Jira Integration, selecting the appropriate Project, writing the appropriate JQL (likely something like "Team = "Mickey Mouse" and (created >= MM/DD/YYY or updated >= MM/DD/YYY) and including the board in the "Run Board, Sprint and Fix Version sync along with the search query) set to Yes.
  • If the board was previously integrated, manually using Jira Management --> Jira Sprints (tab), selecting the appropriate Board and then "Sync Board Now".
