Yes absolutely!  We encourage all of our customers to set the 'baseline' capacity for the team in this way and adjust as needed for each sprint using the sprint planning meeting in Jira Align.

Steps to set team member capacity (baseline):

Step 1: Establish Team Members Allocation to the team

Menu:  Team->Manage>Teams- Select the team from the presented grid view

Select Members Tab - Ensure each team members has the appropriate team role (and nonteam members are set to the stakeholder's role)

Click the Allocations Link (right side of panel)

Set the (default/Baseline) allocation of each team member for Core work and Defect work -

Click Save

*Notes

1) Defect Allocation Column will only show if set by the admin

2) Allocation to the team in this setting is based on the Burn Hours field set at the team level (Team details tab - default is 6) i.e 6 Burn Hours Team setting - and Bob is 80% allocated on the team in a 2-week sprint Bob has 48 hours of allocation,  Sue is 100% so she as 60 hours of allocation over the same time frame.

*****

Once these allocations have been set - You may set sprint loads using this default and adjust, copy allocations from any other sprint for the team (or of course manually build allocations for each sprint) Go to Step 2:

*****

Step 2:

To apply these Allocations to the sprint:

(Menu:  Team->Manage>Teams- Select the team from the presented grid view)

Click the Sprints Tab

Select a sprint from the list

Click the Members tab:

Two red buttons appear( see image)

Leftmost button copies the allocation you just set on the team settings

The rightmost button allows you to copy allocations from a sprint of your choice.

After selection, you may adjust any team members allocations as needed.  E.g.  Susan is on vacation for 1 week of the sprint, adjust her allocation for this sprint to 50%

Click Save or Save and Close:

Next to set, see, adjust actual hourly capacity available & loaded for the team -

From the Team panel - Select the Capacity link

Any hours on tasks already owned by the team will reflect int he charts on this page.

Clicking the Sprint Task Load "cog wheel" at the top of this screen will open a dialog box, where any team member can adjust task hours for the team members.  This will sync back to Jira based on the Jira Integration settings configuration chosen.

*Note Task sync must be enabled for updates to tasks from Jira Align to sync with Jira.

Thanks this was helpful

We are just getting started with Jira Align.

  • Please can you explain we have an allocation setting for the Scrum Master (me), the PO and analysts?

If your PO or SM is split across multiple teams, then you want to account for that here.  If just one team, use 100, if two teams, use 50 on each of those teams.  That way you get a proper representation of how many people are in those dedicated roles.

Also, you need to have someone in the Scrum Master role on the team, and in each sprint, or Jira Align will give you a warning "No Scrum Master assigned for this Sprint".
