Scenario: an enterprise already leverages Jira Advanced Roadmap specifically to get the Theme, Initiative, Feature, Story hierarchy. Can the hierarchy be integrated with Jira Align, so that there is a bi-directional sync between the issues in each system? Documentation from 2019 indicates a one-time import to Align is where it stops. We are seeking ideas as to what is possible in 2022.
There is no out-of-the box functionality to do bidirectional syncing of Themes and Initiatives from Advanced Roadmaps to Jira Align. Typically, an organization will just do a one-time migration from Advanced Roadmaps into Jira Align. From that point forward, all Themes and Initiatives are created and edited exclusively in Jira Align.
@Allan Maxwell , thank you for your review and input. Perhaps you would consider adding a bi-directional sync into the Align product backlog.

I suspect that this would be possible using the Jira Align and Jira SW APIs.

Getting started with the REST API 2.0 – Jira Align
The Swagger has JA Theme and JA Epic / JSW Initiative endpoints.
So while it's not OOB, it would be possible to custom code for bi-directional syncing.
