Bulk Update (Import) for Additional Programs when IS NOT empty

Gonzalo Martinez May 27, 2022

Bulk update is not working when there is at least one existing Program in the Additional Programs. If that is empty you can update the field.

This is impacting us, we need to add more than 1 additional program to more than 8000 records.

We need a fix for this.

Example:
Capability "CAP01" has:
Primary Program: PR1
Additional Programs: PR2, PR3

(we have 8000 udates to do)

Need:
We want to add the PR4 as well to the Additional Programs.

Method:
Using the import functionality following the guidelines/suggestions from knowledge base.

The addition program in the extract shows: "PR2,PR3".
We change that to: "PR2,PR3,PR4"
Then we run the import using the template.

Results:
Additional Program field is not getting updated. Is not adding the PR4, even if the front end said that a record was updated.

Experiment: Only add the "PR2,PR3,PR4" using the import when the Addition Program field is empty in the Front end. This is the only scenario that works. But if somethin exist there, wont update the value.

What do you mean by "not working"?  Could you tell us what happens when you do it, and what exactly are you doing?

Gonzalo Martinez May 28, 2022

Sure, I'm following the guideline for importing work items, in my case, set of capabilities with existing Additional programs. I want to ADD (addend) another Program to the existing Additional programs.

Do it yourself you will see my point. Others got the same.

Could you explain what you are actually doing?  And what all the things like "additional programs" are?

Gonzalo Martinez May 29, 2022

There are around 8000 capabilities that will be supported by other program, we need to add this program to each capability, there are 2 ways:

1) Setting the program as Primary Program

2) Setting the program as Additional Program

The (1) it is a single select (Just one program), but the (2) you can assign multiple programs to a work item. We are trying to add this NEW program to the list in the additional programs so the new teams can support the capability. It will take time to add this program manually, that's why we want to use the import functionality to add bulk.

It is interesting, this is a known task for work items, not sure why still not clear.
