Smart Commits from Github aren't working for time tracking

I am trying to add a smart commit to track time using the following syntax:
RK-1 #time 3h update for time logging
The smart commit works for a comment, but not time tracking.
I am using github cloud and jira cloud. I have enabled time tracking and both emails for the 2 products match.
