How to become an Atlassian Community Champion

Community Champions are the top influencers in the Atlassian online community — they are knowledgeable about our products, and eager to share their expertise and enthusiasm and connect with others. They are personally invested in the health of the community and have a desire to help shape its future.

Who are they?

All Community Champions in the online community have a badge that identifies them as such.

What constitutes a good Community Champion?

Folks in the program exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Product expert: Deep understanding of one or more Atlassian products and its ecosystem
  • Industry expert: Experience in a particular industry and in using Atlassian and/or its ecosystem in that industry
  • Connector: Intrinsically motivated to help others, support the success of the community and act as an official representative
  • Advocate: Helpful, friendly and embody our company values; willing to partner with our team to drive future improvements to the community
  • Dependable resource: Has time to respond regularly to questions, contribute new content and encourage involvement in the community

How are Community Champions selected?

Current Champions can nominate highly qualified candidates. Outside of that, we track a monthly activity report based on the following point system:

  • 1 point per post
  • 6 points per accepted solution

Based on that, those who accumulate 30 points or more and pass an internal review may be invited via email to join the program. During the review, we look at a candidate's posts and assess things like tone, technical accuracy, level of detail provided (product screenshots are great!) and more. Once invited into the program, we ask that Champions maintain 25 points per quarter moving forward. We’re still working to give members access to the number of points they’re accruing in real time, but rest assured you’ll hear from us if you’re on track for a Champion invite as well.

  • Community Champion badge on your profile
  • Opportunity to earn a free ticket to Atlassian Summit and the chance to have dinner with our co-founders, Mike and Scott
  • Access to a Champions-only Stride instance
  • Free voucher for all of the six Atlassian Certification exams
  • Opportunity to join our Community Advisory Board, with alpha access to new features, input on future enhancements and more
  • Access to Champions-only spaces within the community, plus extra permissions that allow you to moderate content, start discussions and write articles showcasing your expertise
  • Champion-branded swag
  • Fame and glory (arguably the coolest of the benefits)

I have been in IT industry for more than 8 years now and I haven't come across many online communities that contribute so much in terms of knowledge sharing, transfer and troubleshooting. This community does a lot when it comes to those three aspects.

I am only worried about how fast the Database must be growing with so much stuffs here every passing day. ;-)
