Windows Service on Second node of Jira Software Data Center

Ankita Sharma October 25, 2018

We have installed JIRA Software Data Center v 7.12.1 as Windows service. On first node, we have installed it and one second node, we have just copied the Installation & Home directory from first node. Both nodes are working in cluster now. But the second node is not having any Atlassian JIRA windows service as we have just copied the data from first node to second.

We will be adding Load Balancer soon.

QUESTION 1: Do we have to create windows service for JIRA in second node as well considering someday, both nodes stop working and we are not able to start up our first node and fully dependent on second node for start up as a Windows service?

QUESTION 2: We have also added JSD Data Center v 3.15.1 on our first node and automatically it got added to the second node.

But on Applications --> Versions & Licenses Page where we can see both JIRA Software Data Center and JSD Data Center details, we are seeing a warning that Jira Software is Licensed but not currently installed. Similarly, another warning, Jira Service Desk is Licensed but not currently installed. Do we need to do anything on second node for these warnings?

Hi Ankita,

You can add a service to your second node by following these instructions: Running Jira Applications as a Windows Service

I can see that you mentioned copying over both the installation and home directories for the second node. The way that Data Center works, is that it should have a shared home too which would contain all of the plugins.  Have you checked that the shared home is accessible by both nodes so it can access the Software and Service Desk plugins?

You can check out the following guide to make sure that everything is configured correctly: Installing Jira Data Center

Cheers,
Keri

Hi Keri,

Thanks for your reply.

But do we need to have a Windows Service on second node? Is it necessary? As how do we manage with that condition when first node crashes and we are left with only second node to make our Jira run? because in that case, we can only manually run Jira on second node - which is not preferable.

Or do we have to install Jira on second node as well?
