when does Confluence send users email notifications?

barbarat March 19, 2015

Sharing the Confluence program with many people. I know they'll get emails when they are tagged or when they watch the page.

How about if they are tagged and there are updates to the page? Do they get an email every time a page is updated with their name tagged in it?

If someone has edit access on a page, are they automatically notified anytime a page is updated (even if the "notify watcher" checkbox is off?)

Hi Barbarat,

The Confluence users receive the email notification by event. That means that if someone is mentioned, for example, will receive the email notification once, triggered by the mention. If the user is not a watcher of the post/page that was mentioned he will not receive emails when it is edited or something, because the edit event will only trigger the email notification to watchers. The same thing with the edit permission, if "notify watcher" is off the email notification will not be triggered. You can find more information about email notifications in Confluence on the page below:

Great response thanks! The link seems broken. It would be great if there was an option when you publish material changes to be able to notify everyone mentioned on the page or in comments.
