use office excel macro without Atlassian-Companion-App?

We updated Confluence to version 7.1.0. Since then it is not possible for our Users to use the office excel macro. If we click on the edit-Button, it opens a loading screen. It takes some time until it shows the information, we have to download the Atlassian-Companion-App. Is it necessary to download this App or is there another option to edit the documents with this macro?

There is a dark feature that you can enable to revert to the previous functionality. However, there are some plus sides to the companion app. The main reason for this app is that it expands the file types that can be edit from Confluence without having to do the awkward dance of downloading a local copy, editing it, saving it, and re uploading it back the Confluence page. The Companion app handles that in the background for you. Previously you could only get that functionality with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. The companion app give you that for any file type that you have an editor for on your system.
