set a date within a page and email on reaching that date

Nick Sharpley March 1, 2017

We are using Confluence as a policy repository and we would like to have email notification on reaching policy review dates.

So a simple email that triggers on a specified date with wording along the lines of "Policy document xxxx is due for review".

Out of the box, generating the reminder email isn't possible.

However, you could try a couple of different approaches to track documents for review:

  1. Use labels - e.g. "review-march-2018"
  2. Use tasks and the task report - you would need to define a specific label and/or restrict to a specific space or set of spaces to filter out out user tasks. E.g. only report on tasks in your policy space that are labelled as "policy-for-review"

To generate an email notification you would need a custom solution. If you went down that path, you could actually add a custom content property for the review date and eliminate any confusion with other labels or tasks. It would then just be a case of polling Confluence once a day to check for pages that have reached the review date in order to trigger an email. You could even create a dashboard to report on all your policies.
