Hi Nic,

Thanks for your answer. Do you know when the next release is expected. We are waiting to upgrade and would like to hold, if the next upgrade is just around the corner.

Yes, "when it's ready". That's the only solid answer you'll get from Atlassian.

You can usually get a feel for it from their issue tracker, blogs, announcements and so-on, but they rightly refuse to release something that they don't feel is ready, so they won't give you a fixed date.

Except... around this time of year. The Atlassian Summit is next week - this often prompts a swathe of major and minor releases and beta stuff. I can't say that there will be any particular release of any one product, but I would recommend waiting until next Friday (14th) to see what is announced and released!
